“We wanted to combine the look of fashion sportswear with the comfort of reclining sofas,” said Larry Smith, president of Barcalounger.
The Vogue Collection will feature upscale designs that look like stationary sofas, loveseats and chairs that just happen to recline. They’re cooler, more metropolitan looks to tap a younger professional shopper.
At the recent international High Point Market, Barcalounger debuted the Kester Sofa, shown above, in a trend-forward blue leather, with optional colors of soft spa green and a creamy pearl white leather, shown in the pillow choices.
The reclining chair, above is shown in the pearl white leather. Adding to the stylish look, the arms of the Kester sofa and chair have a dramatic flair and detailed tailoring.
Plush pad-over-chaise seating adds to the look. All the items in the group have “Personal Comfort Control: Choose Your Power,” offering power recline, adjustable headrest and lumbar support. All power levels even include a USB port for charging mobile devices.
Since installing a 2,000-square-foot space dedicated to the Barcaloungerbrand, top 100 furniture retailer Johnny Janosikin Laurel, Delaware has seen an uptick in sales, special order business and excitement about the products from retail salespeople and shoppers, said Chairman Dave Koehler.
“We’ve seen an uptick in our Barcalounger business since installing the branded display space,” Koehler said. “It makes it easier for the sales associates to demonstrate all the features and benefits of the furniture in one area, and has given continuity and enthusiasm for the brand. Because of the easy-to-use catalog stand with leather/fabric swatches, the consumer is confident to special order a different cover, since they can sit in many similar items right there in the display.”
The speed of service for receiving shoppers’ special orders from Barcalounger has been outstanding, Koehler said. “Barcalounger warehouses the married-cover furniture items in North Carolina, and they ship out the special orders to us 48 to 72 hours after receipt. We receive the items in very short order, and that’s been a huge advantage for us,” he said.
A display of best-selling Barcalounger Pedestal Recliners and Ottomans, along with point-of-purchase educational signage, above, is included in the branded space at Johnny Janosik. Overall, the space has a total of six power reclining groups and 10 free standing recliners and pedestal reclining chairs and ottomans.
Said Merchandising Manager Bob Russo, “The Barcalounger space has created excitement about the brand on the sales floor for both the salespeople and consumers. It makes it so easy to shop and engage with the brand.”
